The Best Order to Use Your Beauty Tools In
Share
You've invested in the right tools. Now the question is — does the order you use them actually matter?
The short answer is yes. Using tools in the wrong sequence can reduce their effectiveness, and in some cases — like using a derma roller after LED therapy — can cause unnecessary irritation. Here's the optimal order for every combination of tools, whether you're doing a quick morning routine or a full weekly session.
Why Order Matters
Different tools work at different depths and through different mechanisms. Some open the skin, some stimulate it, some cool it — and doing them in the wrong sequence is like applying moisturiser before cleanser. The logic only works one way.
The general principle: work from most intensive to least intensive, and always end with something that soothes and settles the skin.
The Daily Morning Routine — Correct Order
Step 1 — Ice Globes (2-3 minutes) Start with cold. The Glomi Stainless Steel Ice Globes reduce morning puffiness, constrict blood vessels and wake the skin up. Doing this first means your skin is de-puffed and circulation is stimulated before you apply anything else.
Step 2 — Apply serum or facial oil After cold therapy, your pores are temporarily tightened and skin is primed. Apply your Vitamin C serum or facial oil now — it absorbs more efficiently immediately after cold therapy.
Step 3 — Facial Roller or Gua Sha (2-3 minutes) Use the Glomi Rose Quartz Roller & Gua Sha Set over your serum to push the product deeper into the skin and continue lymphatic drainage. The roller works best with a serum or oil underneath — never on dry skin. Roll upward and outward from the centre of the face, finishing with downward strokes on the neck.
Step 4 — Moisturiser and SPF Complete your product routine as normal. The combination of cold therapy, massage and serum application means your products will absorb significantly more effectively than without the tools.
The Weekly Deep Session — Correct Order
Once a week, when you have more time, add the intensive tools. Here's the right sequence:
Step 1 — Cleanse thoroughly Start with completely clean skin. The derma roller creates micro-channels that dramatically increase absorption — you want nothing but your intended serum going in.
Step 2 — Derma Roller Use the derma roller on clean, dry skin. Roll back and forth on clean skin with light pressure on each area of the face 5-10 times, horizontally, vertically, and diagonally. Work systematically across the forehead, cheeks and chin. Poosh
Step 3 — Apply your best serum immediately Following treatment, with clean hands, apply your skincare serums immediately. The micro-channels are open — this is when absorption is at its maximum. Hyaluronic acid is the ideal choice here — it hydrates deeply and supports the skin's repair process. Avoid retinol, Vitamin C or any active exfoliants directly after rolling as they can irritate the open channels. Poosh
Step 4 — Microcurrent Device (10-15 minutes) After derma rolling and serum application, use the Glomi EMS Microcurrent Facial Massager. The electrical stimulation works on the muscle layer beneath the skin — it's compatible with serum-covered skin and doesn't interfere with the channels created by the roller.
Step 5 — LED Mask (10-15 minutes) Finish with the Glomi 7 Colour LED Light Therapy Face Mask. LED works at a cellular level through light energy — it doesn't require any particular skin state to function, and it's an excellent way to end a session as it reduces inflammation and supports the skin's recovery after more intensive treatments. Use an LED mask three to five times per week for meaningful changes — on your weekly deep session day, it rounds off the routine perfectly. Collectiveskincare
Step 6 — Facial Roller to finish End with a light pass of the facial roller to soothe the skin, support drainage and help any remaining product absorb. Keep pressure very gentle after a derma rolling session.
The Golden Rules
Never use the derma roller on the same day as:
- Chemical exfoliants (AHAs, BHAs)
- Retinol
- Active breakouts
Always clean your tools after every use. Product residue and bacteria accumulate quickly. A quick wipe with a damp cloth after each session, and a deeper clean weekly, keeps everything hygienic and effective.
Derma roller frequency: once a week maximum at 0.25mm. More frequent use doesn't accelerate results — it just prevents the skin from recovering properly between sessions.
The Bottom Line
The right order isn't complicated once you understand the logic — most intensive first, soothing last, and always with clean skin as your starting point. Build the daily sequence into your morning routine and the weekly session into a Sunday or weeknight ritual, and you'll get significantly more from every tool you own.
