Why Your At-Home Lash Lift Didn’t Take — and How to Fix It

If your at-home lash lift didn’t take, you’re not alone — a flat or uneven result is the single most common problem people hit, and it’s almost always down to one of a handful of fixable mistakes. The good news: once you know what went wrong, the fix is usually simple.

Here’s how to diagnose a lash lift that dropped, stayed straight, or came out uneven — and what to change next time.

What “didn’t take” usually means

A lash lift that hasn’t worked tends to show up in one of three ways: lashes that stayed completely flat, a lift that looked good on day one but dropped within a few days, or a curl that’s uneven across the eye. Each points to a different cause, so it helps to identify which one you’re dealing with before changing your routine.

Cause 1: Processing time was too short

The perm solution needs enough time to soften the lash structure so it can be reshaped. Cut it short and the lash never fully takes the new curl. With the Glomi Lash Lift Kit, the perm step runs 10–12 minutes — set a timer and don’t lift the pad to check early, as opening the eye mid-process disturbs the lashes.

That said, longer is not better. Overprocessing is its own problem and can leave lashes brittle, so stay inside the window rather than pushing past it.

Cause 2: Leftover oil or makeup on the lashes

This is the most underrated cause. Any trace of oil, mascara, or cleanser residue creates a barrier that stops the solution gripping the lash. If you skipped a thorough cleanse — or used a cleanser with conditioning oils — the lift has less chance of holding.

Cleanse twice before you start, using the cleanser included in your kit, and let lashes dry fully before applying any solution.

Cause 3: The wrong pad size

Pad size controls the shape of the curl. Too large for your lash length and the lashes can’t reach the top of the pad, giving a weak, barely-there lift. Too small and lashes over-curl into a tight crimp that reads as “didn’t take” because it looks unnatural rather than lifted.

Most kits include several sizes for exactly this reason. If your last lift was flat, size down one; if it crimped, size up. Matching the pad to your natural lash length matters more than matching it to your eye shape.

Cause 4: The fixing step was rushed

The perm step reshapes the lash; the fixing (or setting) step locks that shape in. Skip or shorten it and the curl relaxes within days — which is why a lift can look perfect on day one and vanish by day three. Give the fixation solution its full 10–12 minutes, the same as the perm step.

Cause 5: Lashes got wet too soon

The new curl needs around 24 hours to fully set. Steam, water, sweat, or rubbing in that first day can pull lashes straight again before the bond is stable. Keep them dry and hands-off for a full day after treatment.

A note on lash and eye safety

Lash lifting uses chemistry that works close to the eye, so a patch test 24 hours before every treatment isn’t optional — it’s how you catch a reaction before it reaches your eye area. The College of Optometrists advises caution with any product used near the eyes and recommends seeking advice if you experience irritation, redness, or discomfort. If anything stings during a treatment, remove it immediately and rinse.

Quick fixes recap

If your next lift falls flat, change one variable at a time so you know what worked: cleanse twice, time both chemical steps fully, match the pad to your lash length, and keep lashes dry for 24 hours afterwards. Most “failed” lifts come right with a single adjustment.

Ready to get the lift right?

A reliable result starts with a complete, well-balanced kit. The Glomi Lash Lift Kit includes everything in the right strengths — perm and fixation solutions, nourishing treatment, cleanser, multiple pad sizes and applicators — so you’re not improvising with mismatched parts. If you’d like perfectly lifted lashes and laminated brows in one go, the Brow & Lash Edit bundle pairs it with the Eyebrow Lamination Kit.

Frequently asked questions

Why did my lash lift only last a few days?
Usually a rushed or skipped fixing step, or getting lashes wet within the first 24 hours. Give the fixation solution its full time and keep lashes dry for a day.

Can I redo a lash lift straight away if it didn’t work?
No — wait at least 4–6 weeks. Reprocessing lashes too soon risks overprocessing and damage. Let them recover first.

Is a flat lift a sign of a faulty kit?
Rarely. Flat results almost always trace back to processing time, leftover oils, or pad size rather than the product itself.

How long should a successful lash lift last?
Typically 6–8 weeks, fading gradually as your natural lashes complete their growth cycle.
